Isole nella rete: l’Europa delle strade e delle città

The evolution in the modern sense of European cities has invested many aspects of the reorganization of entire areas of the Old World, a very new network of city maps has changed the geography of Europe by the early nineteenth century, beginning from substantial changes in the road network: the road comes in and goes out of the cities, redrafting the internal and outside space. This essay tries to capture a summary of some transformations in the new economic and social context of the nineteenth century, which is the origin of our own contemporary age, with some significant foray in the centuries that forewent the arrival of the industrial period for pointing out the basic steps.

L’evoluzione in senso moderno delle città europee ha investito molteplici aspetti della riorganizzazione di intere aree del Vecchio continente; una nuovissima rete di cartografie cittadine ha ridisegnato la geografia europea dagli inizi dell’Ottocento, a partire da consistenti modificazioni della viabilità: la strada entra ed esce dalle città, ridisegnandone lo spazio interno ed esterno. Questo saggio prova a cogliere in sintesi alcune permanenze e trasformazioni nel nuovo contesto economico-sociale del XIX secolo, che è all’origine della nostra stessa contemporaneità, con qualche significativa incursione nei secoli che hanno preceduto l’arrivo dell’età industriale per segnarne i passaggi fondamentali.
