Abstract · Spinoza and Finalism · In the Appendix to the first part of the Ethics, Spinoza identifies the origin of all prejudices in anthropocentric finalism. In recent literature it has been argued that Aristotle is not the target of this criticism. In this essay arguments are raised in favor of the inclusion of Aristotelian culture as a whole in Spinoza’s criticism. These arguments enhance the Spinozian thesis according to which anthropocentric finalism lies at the origin of values and of the objectification of the qualities of bodies.
