Traduzione degli epigrammi di Anite di Tegea

The idea of this translation arises from the desire to go on the research begun with my master thesis whose aim was a linguistic-stylistic analysis of Anyte’s epigrams survived in the Greek anthology. Anyte was an Arcadian poet, born in Tegea between the 4th and the 3rd century BC, admired by her contemporaries and later generations for her charming epigrams and epitaphs. She wrote epitaphs for animals and young girls and epigrams about vivid descriptions of untamed nature. The translation I carried out is based on a redefinition of text and on a preliminary and detailed linguistic study which are very important in terms of studies on Hellenistic epigram. The previous attempts of a translation are Antologia Palatina, 4 voll., Turin 1978-1981 and Antologia Palatina, 2 voll., Turin 2005, the first one made by Pontani and the second one by Marzi. The originality of my translation is that the Greek structures are translated with similar Italian ones without a re- elaborated version. I sought to avoid a creative translation, so that the poet’s aims can be detected through the Italian translation. For example in order to translate in the most effective way some Greek expressions it was necessary to use a periphrasis (cf. δειμαίνει in AP IX 144,4 = HE 725 = ep. 15,4 Geogh.). The attention was focused indeed on the etymological meaning of some adjectives, especially of the compound words, which are a peculiar aspect of Anyte’s style.
