Davidson's insights into metaphor are often treated as an isolated episode, with little regard for his work on semantics. In this paper I want to reassess “What Metaphors Mean” in the light of Davidson’s theory of meaning, to explain why he is convinced that a metaphor lacks cognitive content and is devoid of any meaning other than that conveyed by its words in their literal interpretation.

Abstract
Davidson's insights into metaphor are often treated as an isolated episode, with little regard for his work on semantics. In this paper I want to reassess “What Metaphors Mean” in the light of Davidson’s theory of meaning, to explain why he is convinced that a metaphor lacks cognitive content and is devoid of any meaning other than that conveyed by its words in their literal interpretation.File in questo prodotto:
