The aim of this paper is to catalogue the examples of Minoan "double vases” (vasi duplici) that have already been published. The presence of this unusually-shaped vase is attested mainly in Crete for almost the entire Minoan and Mycenaean period (26th-12th centuries B.C.). The "double vase” consists of two elements: A small jug and a smaller vessel with no openings of its own. The contents in the two chambers could be mixed thanks to a connecting channel. A typological and contextual study allowed us to hypothesize a ritual function for this vessel, linked to the use of scented oils in the necropolis.

Abstract
The aim of this paper is to catalogue the examples of Minoan "double vases” (vasi duplici) that have already been published. The presence of this unusually-shaped vase is attested mainly in Crete for almost the entire Minoan and Mycenaean period (26th-12th centuries B.C.). The "double vase” consists of two elements: A small jug and a smaller vessel with no openings of its own. The contents in the two chambers could be mixed thanks to a connecting channel. A typological and contextual study allowed us to hypothesize a ritual function for this vessel, linked to the use of scented oils in the necropolis.File in questo prodotto:
