Presenze napoletane nelle “Annales de chimie” (1789-1815)

The first series of the famous French chemical journal the Annales de chimie (1789-1815) contains a number of papers by Neapolitan scholars. We find Matteo Tondi as co-author of a paper on the discovery of the reduction of simple earths and Andrea Savaresi tries to invalidate it. There also are two book reviews of Tiberius Cavallo’s works, and finally a memoire by Antonio Pitaro about a mysterious substance on the island of Capri. These papers corroborate previous ideas about the involvement of scholars from the Kingdom of Naples (i.e. Southern Italy) in the international scientific community of the 18th century.
