Il "Trésor des simples" di Jean Germain: appunti per un’edizione critica

This article focuses on the Trésor des simples (TS), an anti-Islamic and pro-crusade treatise written by the French bishop Jean Germain (1396?-1461) for his patron Philip II Duke of Burgundy. Conceived as a preliminary contribution to a critical edition of this text, the paper presents the manuscripts of the TS, illustrates the results of their partial collation and explains the remaining doubts and problems. The paper ends by highlighting the points of relevance of the TS, namely the original combination of the first French translation of the Latin version of the Risāla-t-al-Kindī with Philip the Good’s political project and the contemporary European situation, especially the fight against Christian heresies and Protestant movements.
