This study aims at profiling a quota sample of 325 residents in Venice, a home-port in Italy characterized by overtourism, based on their perceptions and attitudes toward the development of cruise tourism. Three clusters were identified (‘cautious’, ‘optimistic’ and ‘opposers’) that significantly differ according to economic reliance on cruise tourism, relatives’ economic reliance on cruise activity, education level and geographical proximity to the cruise port area. Hence, theoretical contributions and managerial implications are addressed, and future research venues are given.

Abstract
This study aims at profiling a quota sample of 325 residents in Venice, a home-port in Italy characterized by overtourism, based on their perceptions and attitudes toward the development of cruise tourism. Three clusters were identified (‘cautious’, ‘optimistic’ and ‘opposers’) that significantly differ according to economic reliance on cruise tourism, relatives’ economic reliance on cruise activity, education level and geographical proximity to the cruise port area. Hence, theoretical contributions and managerial implications are addressed, and future research venues are given.File in questo prodotto:
