Some unpublished documents and good-quality photographs have given us a much better idea of the painting by Pierantonio Palmerini once in the sacristy of the church of Sant’Andrea, Urbino. The painting was sold to two collectors and art dealers in 1913: Vittorio Belli and Filippo Battaglini from Rimini. On the basis of some historical sources, Belli unsuccessfully tried to prove that the painting was by Raphael. Never sold, the work was in the possession of Vittorio Belli until his death in 1953. Its current whereabouts is unknown.
