The aim of this paper is to analyse the long-term care system in Veneto region. The popula- tion of Veneto is progressively ageing, as a result of the decrease in the birth rate and the increase in life expectancy. One person out of five is 65 years old and has another 20 years of life expectancy (on average). According to demographic forecasts, the number of elderly people in Veneto will double in forty years. The LTC offer system has developed mainly within the social and healthcare area, between home and residential care and is based on economic transfers to families (allowances for home or residential care). The family is still the main actor in informal care that is provided through the use of internal resources (mainly partners or sons, if any) or external resources (informal caregiver).
