The article discusses the Armenian rendering of LXX Gen 34:3a in the context of how this verse was understood in the Greek textual tradition with respect to the Hebrew original. It argues that the Armenian translator understood te psyche of the Greek as a dative modifier related to Shechem and interpreted Dinas as the genitive indirect object of proseschen, whereas conventional Greek syntax would have required reading te psyche as the proper indirect object of the verb followed by a genitive modifier (Dinas). Whether this reading is of Hexaplaric origin or not, it shows how the Armenian translator chose to disambiguate his Vorlage favoring context over isolation and the conventional rules of Greek syntax.
