A fragment of a lower grinding stone made of volcanic rock is described in this paper. It was discovered not far from the Duino railway station in the Trieste Karst. The petrographic characteristics indicate that the grinding stone would be made of trachytic volcanites extracted from the Euganean Hills. From a typological and petrographic point of view the artefact is very similar to many grinding stones found in Istrian and Karst castellieri, dated from the end of the 7th to the 5th century b.C. The grinding stone from Duino was found among the rocks of a ruined wall which delimits an irregular area, accessible through three gates. The building technique is similar to that used in the castellieri but the small size of the wall and the little extension of the area, together with the lack of other archaeological materials, do not allow to express a satisfactory opinion about site chronology. The artefact from Duino completes our knowledge about the distribution of grinding stones made of Euganean volcanites in the Trieste Karst castellieri.
