Ridere e deridere: funzioni del riso nei romanzi di Svevo

The characters of Svevo’s novels laugh and smile a lot. In Una vita and Senilità the act of laughing expresses above all the power relationships between the characters; in the Coscienza di Zeno laughter performs an essentially cognitive function and will become a metaphorical attribution of life itself. The essay aims to analyse the methods and forms that carry out the act of laughing in Svevo’s writing, either in presence or in absence, and in all its nuances (laughter, smile, derision).

Nei romanzi di Svevo i personaggi ridono e sorridono molto. In "Una vita" e "Senilità" l’atto del ridere esprime soprattutto i rapporti di forza tra i personaggi; nella "Coscienza di Zeno" il riso assolve ad una funzione di tipo essenzialmente conoscitivo e giungerà ad essere attribuzione metaforica della vita stessa. L’intento è quello di analizzare modalità e forme che nella scrittura di Svevo assolve l’atto del ridere, in presenza, in assenza, e in tutte le sue sfumature (riso, sorriso, derisione).
