In the context of the intense relationships between poetry and painting in Venice during the XVIth Century, appears two poems by Aretino («Furtivamente Tiziano e Amore») and Hurtado de Mendoza («Tu gracia, tu valor, tu hermosura») dedicated to Tiziano’s portrait of a mysterious lady that has been identified with doña Marina de Aragón and a Hebrew mistress, with a series of problems. This work aims to review the network of contacts that is the base for this pictorial- poetical exercise, as well as to examine both texts in relation with the artistic world and the possible paintings in the tradition of portrait-poems.
