The results of paleoenvironmental research regarding the mid-low Modena plain (Italy) between the 8th and 14th century CE are reported. Written sources are analysed to find information about woods, marshes, cultivated areas, meadows, channels and canals. These topographic data have then been related to geomorphological data. The purpose of the research is to merge different approaches, in order to reconstruct small historical segments and, in particular, to create and test methodological instruments that are still not common in everyday historical-archaeological practice.

Abstract
The results of paleoenvironmental research regarding the mid-low Modena plain (Italy) between the 8th and 14th century CE are reported. Written sources are analysed to find information about woods, marshes, cultivated areas, meadows, channels and canals. These topographic data have then been related to geomorphological data. The purpose of the research is to merge different approaches, in order to reconstruct small historical segments and, in particular, to create and test methodological instruments that are still not common in everyday historical-archaeological practice.File in questo prodotto:
