This article is a study of an omnipresent notion in the context of translation theory, practice and teaching, namely the notion of error. Through an analysis of the different meanings of the concept of error in the context of translation, and the different roles that errors have played in the history of languages, the article aims to offer a different perception of this notion, contributing to making of it an important theoretical and pedagogical tool in the field of translation.
