This paper begins as the answer to a question, namely, what is studied in Italy when studying the medieval Benedictine monasticism? The result is a brief but exhaustive contribution to the topic that fits three central points of the issue: thematic limitation, chronological limitation and specific aspects of the investigation. Its general objective is, therefore, to illuminate the research topics investigated by Italian scholars in the last twenty-thirty years.
