Masters and "garzoni": the transmission of technical and artistic skills in Early Modern Venice. Based on the first results of an international research project, this article examines the organisation of apprenticeships in Venice in the modern era, from the point of view of legislation and contractual practices. The specificities of apprenticeships in craft and artistic trades are analysed, at a time when these trades were gradually differentiating. Apprenticeships in Venice were of great interest to the authorities in the Middle Ages and modern era. Consequently, historical sources were produced that can be considered exceptional in the European context.
