The present paper aims at demonstrating that expressions of the type N1 N2 in Bulgarian are ambigous and have different syntax due to their different compositional semantics. The paper offers various empirical observations about such expressions, which can contain a count or a mass noun, and proposes that according to their counting or measuring function they must receive two different syntactic analyses.

Abstract

The present paper aims at demonstrating that expressions of the type N1 N2 in Bulgarian are ambigous and have different syntax due to their different compositional semantics. The paper offers various empirical observations about such expressions, which can contain a count or a mass noun, and proposes that according to their counting or measuring function they must receive two different syntactic analyses.
