If death is one of the major subjects of Luis Alberto de Cuenca’s poetry, suicide appears with a great range, according to diverse functions and meanings. This work aims to tracks the presence of the suicide’s motif on cuenquists poems, which starts with a division into a series of suicide poems («Peligrosa», «Isabel», «La mentirosa», «Eterno femenino», «Epigrama» and «Brujas suicidas en un bar») and some other brief references which must be explained in every case, in order to examine it development in crescendo in relation with the favorite mechanisms (humor and irony) and the autobiographical game, as well as it traces a typology of the different modalities of suicide in dialogue with tradition and in comparison with other contemporary poets.
