The article offers an investigation of Roberto Calasso’s “Opera in corso”, a set of nine books – from La rovina di Kasch (1983) to L’innominabile attuale (2017) – that are difficult to label under a precise genre and are devoted to investigating Modernity through a broad variety of fields, from art criticism to philosophy, from history of economic thought to religious studies. More specifically, the article suggests a mystical-religious interpretation of Calasso’s aesthetic, by means of reading his work in progress through the symbols of the nymph, the forest and the snake.
