In this paper I provide the first map of the Mòcheno left periphery. I show that this language should be considered a relaxed V2 language like Old Romance, but that, the fronted XP and the finite verb can move to two positions within the left periphery according to their being interrogative wh-elements or foci (as in Ladin, see Poletto 2002). I thus claim that there are two FPs within the left periphery whose head can be associated with the EPP feature responsible for V2: a lower OpP specialized for interrogative wh-elements and a higher OpP specialized for Foci. Multiple TopicPs are available above the lower OpP, whereas only XPs belonging to the frame can appear before the higher OpP:

Abstract
In this paper I provide the first map of the Mòcheno left periphery. I show that this language should be considered a relaxed V2 language like Old Romance, but that, the fronted XP and the finite verb can move to two positions within the left periphery according to their being interrogative wh-elements or foci (as in Ladin, see Poletto 2002). I thus claim that there are two FPs within the left periphery whose head can be associated with the EPP feature responsible for V2: a lower OpP specialized for interrogative wh-elements and a higher OpP specialized for Foci. Multiple TopicPs are available above the lower OpP, whereas only XPs belonging to the frame can appear before the higher OpP:File | Dimensione | Formato | |
