The article takes in consideration 12 capitals preserved inside the church of Santa Fosca in the island of Torcello (Venice). The stylistic study and the autoptic analysis allow to divide them in Byzantine spolia (3 capitals) and unique imitations that combine ornamental elements of ancient Roman and early Byzantine art (9 capitals). A prudent dating is provided for each piece together with observations on the diffusion of the Proconnesian marble in Venice along the 10th and 11th century.
