The paper focuses on new data on local production of fine ware at Pompeii between the late IV and the mid- III century AD. of local production of black gloss, “Gnathia (style) ware”, “Gnathia (style) ware” with reserved or band-decorated external surfaces, red figured ware and Hellenistic band-decorated ware. The ceramics illustrate the productivity capacity of Pompeii in its early stages of development and prove to be a valuable tool in order to explore issues on cultural interaction and transfer of technological knowledge among communities living in the Vesuvian region and ancient Campania.
