The article describes the realization of consonant clusters in an external sandhi position in Modern Standard Russian that include so-called “unpronounced consonants” – dental occlusive obstruents that may be omitted in certain positions. The research shows that the realization of these clusters depends on the place of the word juncture and that palatalized consonants tend to be omitted more regularly than the velarized ones.
