La guerra de Portugal en el auto sacramental de Calderón: historia y razones de un silencio

This work tries to search an explanation to the surprising absance of Portugal’s history and the war of 1580-1640 in Calderón’s auto sacramental. After introducing the essential coordinates of the relationship of such bad neighbours, it is recalled the historical component of the sacramental dramaturgy and sketched the panorama of the presence of portuguese elements in calderonian corpus in order to finally provides four possible reasons to explain this curious silence: the relation with the government’s strategy, more focused on the catalonian revolt; the restricted of the advertising campaign for this front; the care with the tensions and the sensibility of the moment in Madrid; and the limited use of the religious argument in the dialectic battle between spaniards and portuguese.
