Abstract
The famous "Universal Judgement" by Beato Angelico, kept at San Marco National Museum of Florence, has undergone thorough stylistic and material studies. The iconography of its articulated celestial geography seems examined less than the infernal rival. The left side of the panel is divided by the upper semicircle of the celestial court, and in the lower area, the Holy City standing on the plains of Eden. The latter, in particular occupies a large part of the scene and gives rise to numerous interpretations. This article wishes to help the clarification, by means of a comparison between image and holy texts, the theological substratum of the unusual juxtaposition of ugarden" and "city", meditating the previous iconographic analyses of this work and, finally, comparing the iconological and interretative role which the correlation between these two form undertake in the context of other works by Beato Angelico.I documenti in ARCA sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
