TEMPORAL DIMENSIONS IN ARTISTIC ENTREPRENEURSHIP

“Temporal dynamics are at the heart of entrepreneurship”. This is how Bird & Page West III (1997) opened the special issue on Time and Entrepreneurship in Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice, and this is the focus of the present paper, which analyses the complex and multidimensional relationship between the time dimension and the practice of entrepreneurship in the specific context of cultural and artistic productions. More specifically, the present paper aims at analysing the impact produced by the temporal dimension on the role of the artist-entrepreneur in conducing her own cultural enterprise. Adopting a qualitative research approach based on both open interviews and on site observations of a number of artists-entrepreneurs in their double life as artists and as entrepreneurs, the paper will discuss the preliminary findings emerged on the ground.
