ROLE OF ETHNIC STEREOTYPES IN THE INTERCULTURAL COMMUNICATION. The article deals with the problems of ethnic stereotypes of modern Russians and Italians and their role in the intercultural communication. The author touches upon the main features of this phenomenon and its functions. The paper analyzes the image of some state and nationality in language popular consciousness of Italians and Russians. The article focuses on stereotypes about Russia and Russians, Italy and Italians. The analysis is based on the date obtained from the psychosemantic experiment. The respondents were asked to estimate the significance of some values for “representatives” of different countries or nationalities. The results obtained with applications of Ch. Osgood's semantic differential.
