Catalan writer Jacint Verdaguer traveled to Russia in 1884 and wrote a travelogue. This trip can be seen as a late variant of the experiences of typical romantic writers. In this article I discuss two interrelated issues: a reflection on European travelogues written during the romantic period, and a review Catalan writer Verdaguer's contributions to, and adaptations of, the genre.
