The reaction of NO with [CoXL4]+ (X = Cl, Br, I; L = phosphites) cations has been studied and new pentacoordinated mono- and tetracoordinated dinitrosyl cobalt complexes, {MNO}8 and {M(NO)2}10, obtained in mild conditions. Trigonal-bipyramidal structures with linear MNO have been deduced from infrared and pmr spectra for the mononitrosyl compounds described. Abstract

The reactivity with phosphine, CO, halogen, and isocyanide of the nitrosyl complexes reported is also presented as well as the investigations carried out to ascertain the species operating the reduction to cobalt(I) in the formation of dinitrosyl complexes. © 1980.
