These notes, written on the base of sources and testimonies, aim to provide elements to comprehend the cultural climate and the branch profile of the group called Geografia democratica that marked out the Italian geography in the Seventies: the nature and purposes of the group, the academic and socio-political background, the cultural references, the different voices animating the group, the achievements and the heritage. From the reconstruction emerges a picture worth to be recalled by the geographic community, especially for the still sound appeal to a “civil geography”.
