Alternative forms are proposed for the coefficients in the series expansions of certain orthogonal functions. An application is made to the expansion in series of ultraspherical polynomials. Advantages in the numerical calculation of such coefficients, similar to those previously obtained by P.J. Scanlon for the case of Legendre polynomials, are shown to continue to exist. Numerical examples are given to illustrate the attainable accuracy. © 1994.

Abstract
