N-protected 1,2,3,4-tetrahydropirydazines are readily obtained from the corresponding 1,2,3,6-tetrahydro-derivatives by double bond migration induced by ruthenium complexes. Almost quantitative conversions and complete chemioselectivities are achieved using RuCl2(PPh3)4 as catalyst precursor at 100° C in a pressure vessel. In the same conditions the cluster complex H4Ru4(CO)12 shows lower activity, while HRh(PPh3)4 gives unsatifactory results. © 1988.
