This work introduces and studies the case of the hungarian photographer Kati Horna who has remained for a long time almost unknown in the world of photography. The reason of this is due to an ethic and personal choice that the photographer decided to follow from the very beginning of her career in the thirties. The wish of becoming a photographer was an impulse for studying and traveling all around Europe. After a period spent in Germany and in France, where she took the first photographic sequence on The Paris Flea Market, Horna was entrust with the task of documenting the Spanish Civil War. From that moment on, she became a fotoreporter. The originality of this work stands not only in presenting a new figure in the panorama of international photography, but also in doing this using a different hermeneutic method that gives importance to the image and to the context of its creation. The reflexion starts from the ideas of story and image of Walter Benjamin, lately actualized in Georges Didi-Huberman's works: the photograph is a complex object of time and it needs a text to be interpreted. The photograph is not only a registration of reality but it stands as a paradigma of historical and social events.
