Vittoria Aganoor has been widely studied as an Italian poet, but far less so as an intellectual of Armenian origin. To date, her Armenian identity has never been the subject of a systematic investigation. This study, the result of over a decade of research conducted by Sona Haroutyunian, Associate Professor at Ca’ Foscari University of Venice, seeks to reconstruct an essential yet hitherto little-explored dimension of her identity. The research is based primarily on the analysis of archival sources preserved at the Library of the Mekhitarist Congregation of the Armenian Fathers on the Island of San Lazzaro in Venice, the State Archives of Perugia, and the Archives of the Museum of Literature and Art in Yerevan. Additional sources include the Municipal Library of Magione, the Ateneo Veneto, the Biblioteca Nazionale Marciana, the Biblioteca Bertoliana, the collection of the Consulta Araldica at the Central State Archives in Rome, the National Library of Armenia, and the Project SAVE Armenian Photograph Archives (Watertown, Massachusetts).
