The paper presents a first overview of the 19th-century Syriac scholar Micah the Clockmaker. Born a Syriac Orthodox, Micah converted to Protestantism and composed many apologies for his faith. He authored some remarkable prose defenses written in Garshuni and various metrical apologies in Classical Syriac. The paper presents these works and discusses the manuscripts he composed to sketch a picture of such an active, yet overlooked, scholar. In so doing, it adds a new piece to the puzzle of the 19th-century history of Syriac scholarship.

Abstract
The paper presents a first overview of the 19th-century Syriac scholar Micah the Clockmaker. Born a Syriac Orthodox, Micah converted to Protestantism and composed many apologies for his faith. He authored some remarkable prose defenses written in Garshuni and various metrical apologies in Classical Syriac. The paper presents these works and discusses the manuscripts he composed to sketch a picture of such an active, yet overlooked, scholar. In so doing, it adds a new piece to the puzzle of the 19th-century history of Syriac scholarship.File in questo prodotto:
