This book examines the numerous forms of population mobility that characterised the history of Syracuse from the foundation of the polis in the late eighth century BCE – itself interpreted as a stage in a broader migration process – to the death of Dionysius I in 367 BCE, analysing their impact on the citizen body, relations among social groups, and the organisation of urban space and the chora. By shifting attention from the political and military causes of these movements to their consequences within the polis, the study combines literary sources with archaeological and topographical data, epigraphic evidence, and geological and palaeoenvironmental reconstructions.

Abstract
This book examines the numerous forms of population mobility that characterised the history of Syracuse from the foundation of the polis in the late eighth century BCE – itself interpreted as a stage in a broader migration process – to the death of Dionysius I in 367 BCE, analysing their impact on the citizen body, relations among social groups, and the organisation of urban space and the chora. By shifting attention from the political and military causes of these movements to their consequences within the polis, the study combines literary sources with archaeological and topographical data, epigraphic evidence, and geological and palaeoenvironmental reconstructions.I documenti in ARCA sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
