This article examines the crucial role played by Mary de Rachewiltz in the (re)discovery of Ezra Pound’s early poetry, with particular attention to "A Lume Spento", Pound's first collection published in 1908. Although Pound himself progressively dismissed his early poems as immature and technically inadequate, Mary de Rachewiltz recognized their literary and formative significance and actively worked to restore them to critical attention, her efforts culminating in the 1965 publication of "A Lume Spento & Other Early Poems". The article explores how Mary de Rachewiltz not only challenged Pound’s own negative assessment of his early work, but also provided valuable interpretive insights into its religious, literary, and mythological sources, thus standing out as the first (re)discoverer of the early poetry of Ezra Pound.
