This study examines variable subject expression in Italian Sign Language (LIS) through a quantitative analysis of data from the LIS Corpus. The results indicate that both linguistic and social factors shape the distribution of subject omission. Null subjects occur more frequently with agreeing verbs, while geographical origin and education further modulate this pattern. Discourse and clause-mate coreference also condition subject omission, interacting significantly with clause type.
