In April 2010, the urban area of Yushu (Qinghai, PRC) was devastated by a violent earthquake, after which an ongoing reconstruction plan was launched, centred on this Tibetan area's eco-touristic development. Drawing on ethnographic records, this paper examines the community's responses in the aftermath of the disaster. An analysis of place-making practices and the sacred geography of pilgrimage provides the conceptual framework for understanding these post-earthquake dynamics.
