This chapter examines a China–Italy collaborative translation project in academic publishing through the lenses of cultural diplomacy and translation sociology. It focuses on the Italian translation of Sanshi ge guanjianci de wenhua shi三十个关键词的文化史 (2021), carried out within the 2023 Chinese Academic Foreign Translation Project. Using the tools of translation sociology, the study analyzes the text’s transnational circulation, considering the configuration of the international field of cultural exchange, the logics underpinning its dissemination, the role of agents and institutions involved, and the structure of the receiving space. It argues that this case exemplifies key mechanisms of contemporary Chinese cultural diplomacy and occupies a distinctive position in the global circulation of Chinese academic knowledge.
