The present article provides a comparison of the left peripheries of Romance and Germanic. It combines evidence from German and Dutch with evidence from the Scandinavian languages to reach a map of in the C-domain in Germanic. A special focus thereby is paid to the proper characterisation of V2 in an extended C-domain. Furthermore, it provides an intonational and information-structural description of the right periphery in German and Dutch and argues that its properties can be best explained by assuming parametrically conditioned vP-intraposition.

Abstract
The present article provides a comparison of the left peripheries of Romance and Germanic. It combines evidence from German and Dutch with evidence from the Scandinavian languages to reach a map of in the C-domain in Germanic. A special focus thereby is paid to the proper characterisation of V2 in an extended C-domain.
