This paper examines the historical connections of Albanians with Venice from the medieval presence to the role of the present-day diaspora in the Veneto region, and puts them in dialogue with the contemporary challenges of preserving the Albanian language in Italy. First, the Italian legal framework for linguistic minorities and the positioning of Albanian as a language of recent immigration are analyzed. The focus then shifts to Ca’ Foscari University where Albanian is taught as a foreign language and as a language of heritage, and where this University serves as a key space for strengthening linguistic competence and preserving the cultural identity of the Albanian diaspora.
