This chapter reconstructs the original features of pragmatist aesthetics by means of a comparison with the major aesthetic tradition of Kantian derivation. Focusing primarily on John Dewey’s proposal, the study highlights the continuity between his theory of art and his philosophy of experience, the overcoming of dualistic and autonomist frameworks, and the resulting socio-political implications. Furthermore, the chapter provides an overview of several key lines of contemporary aesthetological research inspired by pragmatism - including, among others, the proposals of Richard Shusterman, Joseph Margolis, as well as environmental aesthetics and everyday aesthetics.
