This article serves as the principal opening essay of a book-catalogue published to accompany an exhibition on the folklore and indigenous art of India (Treasures and Magic from Another India: The Care of Body and Spirit), held at the Civil Hospital of Venice and hosted at the Scuola Grande di San Marco (April–June 2026). The volume is bilingual, in Italian and English, and the author also contributed as translator for part of the book. The essay offers a general introduction to the question of indigeneity and ethnic minorities in India, as well as to the related epistemological debate surrounding indigenous knowledges and the environment.
