The anonymous Expositio totius mundi and its abridged and revised version, the Totius mundi descriptio, reproducing a geographical text (about 360 CE) translated from Greek, are difficult to date, also due to extremely loose termini ante and lack of indirect tradition. Clues are provided to help discussion about previous attempts and new insights, focusing on the nature and the transmission of both versions, on their relations, on real or supposed interpolations, historical errors and anachronisms such as the mention of the gens Gothorum in front of Gaul or of the Arab-sounding name Palarmum, on linguistic issues and different renderings of the Greek original.

Abstract
The anonymous Expositio totius mundi and its abridged and revised version, the Totius mundi descriptio, reproducing a geographical text (about 360 CE) translated from Greek, are difficult to date, also due to extremely loose termini ante and lack of indirect tradition. Clues are provided to help discussion about previous attempts and new insights, focusing on the nature and the transmission of both versions, on their relations, on real or supposed interpolations, historical errors and anachronisms such as the mention of the gens Gothorum in front of Gaul or of the Arab-sounding name Palarmum, on linguistic issues and different renderings of the Greek original.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
