This volume is the result of the SHERDs project (2024-2026) funded by the PRIN 2022 Ministerial Program, which involved cutting edge research units specialized in the study of craft production in the ancient world, affiliated with the University of Catania, the University of Genoa and Ca’ Foscari University of Venice – and the Institute of the National Research Council (ISPC – Catania). The interdisciplinarity and holistic approaches to archaeology of the SHERDs project marks a significant advancement in the development of methods to study, analyse and generate knowledge on the material culture of societies in the Hellenistic and Roman worlds. The contributions demonstrate how this was achieved by means of field surveys, archaeometric analyses, literary and epigraphic studies and ceramic classification.
