Since after the first schools for translators and interpreters were established in the middle of the 20th century, translation pedagogy has been evolving into complex curricula involving the teaching and learning of professional skills and competencies. These include a command of source and target language, the capacity to acquire and manage relevant thematic knowledge and the ability to master current language and translation technologies. Recent developments in machine translation have given prominence to the role of translators as experts in computer-assisted language mediation, including in machine translation postediting.
