This article analyzes the new legal status of de facto unions based on affection introduced by the 2022 legislative reform of the Cuban Civil Code. De facto unions based on affection are governed by Title VII of the new Cuban Family Code (Articles 306-331), which introduces a status that is autonomous and distinct from that which arises from entering into a legal marriage, which is detailed and complex in many respects.
